Leicester College cuts costs with new software

11.03.2009

Leicester College is staying ahead of the game, as they unite their data and voice networks across three of their campuses.

By installing mobile convergence software, they’re hoping to reduce their mobile phone bills by up to 40%. And they have the ideal opportunity to do it, as they are revamping two of their campuses already.

Connecting the campuses will bring benefits of all sorts to students and staff alike – including wireless access at points around the campus, a voice messaging service for staff and a hot-desk capability.

Staff will also be given Wi-Fi phones that will switch automatically between the college’s VoIP network and their telecom operator network as they move around the site. The technology behind it is Siemens’ Hi-path Mobile Connect software - key to the college if they are to achieve their 40% saving on mobile bills.

The head of e-strategy at the college, Paul Chapman, said that joining their voice and data networks will help them to set up VoIP at the college, an essential part to their e-Strategy for the next five years.
